Writing a Single Second
Artist Cesar Kuriyama wanted to remember part of every day, so he launched a project to videotape just one second each day—a memorable moment. In this Ted Talk, “One Second Every Day,” he shares his insights on how this practice has focused his memory.
A video camera may not be the first recording device we writers reach for, but what if we started a One Second Every Day journal? Perhaps we could fill it with sense impressions—scents, tastes, sounds, textures, images. Perhaps it would bring us a surprise every day. Maybe we could work one second a day into one scene a day.
